Within its broad range of expertise, the practice offers a training contract characterised by flexibility and choice. Training contracts are tailored for each trainee to ensure they have the best start to their career. Given the strength of the practice's international finance practice, trainees spend at least 12 months working in banking, corporate and international capital markets, with contentious experience in either dispute resolution or employment. There are also opportunities for trainees to undertake an international or client secondment in their second year of training. By working closely with trainers and other colleagues, trainees develop practical experience and enjoy a high level of early responsibility.

Allen & Overy recruits 105 trainee solicitors and 65 vacation students (winter and summer) each year. Applications are welcome from both law and non-law candidates. At least a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) should be predicted or acheived, with evidence of teamwork, leadership, motivation, and problem-solving demonstrated.
